Denley and Hall (2020). Mount Pleasant, SC: Hawkes. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to prepare students for more advanced mathematics courses, preparing for a career and to improve their math skills. Teaches students to communicate, interpret, and analyze quantitative information found in the media and in everyday life to make sound personal, professional, and civic decisions. Provides the necessary algebraic content taught in context. This course covers the same content as MAT 1030 with additional algebra topics integrated into the curriculum. Like MAT 1030, it satisfies the General Education requirement for some majors. MAT 1035 is not a prerequisite for STAT 1040 or 1045, MATH 1050, 1055, 1090, or any other math course. HOMEWORK: Homework is the personal responsibility of the student. It is necessary to complete all homework assignments to master the concepts of the course. This will have an online component. You will need to make sure you have purchased an account and have a password. Homework will be done on "Hawkes Learning" and some paper and pencil. Homework will be due on the same day the exams are due. (see schedule). Homework done at any other time will be considered late. Late homework will be worth 50% if it is one day late. Exams: Exams will be given periodically throughout the semester as outlined in the schedule. They will be taken in class. Do not ask for extensions to take the tests. Plan accordingly and work hard to stay on schedule. You have all the dates when tests are to be completed. Do not forget them. FINAL EXAM: The final will be a two hour, comprehensive, multiple choice test listed in the course catalog unless otherwise notified. You must take the test to be eligible to pass the class. CALCULATORS: An inexpensive calculator is recommended for this course to do homework. Calculators may be used for chapter tests but not on the final exam. CHEATING: Cheating is the act of using, attempting to use, or providing others with unauthorized information, materials, or study aids in academic work. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, passing examination answers to or taking examinations for someone else or preparing or copying others academic work. MATH LAB: The Math Lab, located in LA 201, is a free service to you. Tutors are available to give you one-on-one help with concepts, skills and applications. Software to aid you in your course work may also be available. The Math Lab hours are Monday through Thursday 8 AM to 9 PM. The math lab will also be open on Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. The Math Lab also has Online Tutoring at . Call 836-8310 for more details. There is also an online Math Lab.
